We then developed SEVEN exciting ISSUE CAMPAIGNS that are now off the ground and running. VOLUNTEER TODAY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE HERE IN OAKLAND COUNTY!

  • HEALTHCARE
Since 1996, Michigan citizens have had no consumer protection if they are harmed by faulty drugs and/or medical devices, because a 1996 law gives total immunity from liability to the manufacturers of their products that are “approved” by the FDA. Our two campaign objectives are 1) make Michigan citizens (in Oakland County and beyond) aware of this issue and the Legislature’s responsibility to enable its citizens to seek justice under the law, 2) bring pressure on the Legislature to support the bills introduced in 2009 which are currently being held up by Republican Senators. VOLUNTEER NOW! Contact Healthcare Campaign Leader Ethyl Rivera at 248-698-1446 or email Ethyl at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

  • EDUCATION
We are educating volunteers about how they can protect jobs and the quality of education in their community by helping to stop privatization/outsourcing of support staff in Oakland County schools! And we are generating support for House Bill 4219, a bill that would make it more difficult for school districts to privatize staff. VOLUNTEER NOW! • JOBS
Hire Michigan First legislation is going to keep jobs here at home! The bill has passed the MI House of Representatives but needs MI State Senate approval, and it is now more important than ever to push the publicity of this Bill package. VOLUNTEER NOW! • ENVIRONMENT
Our campaign mission is to reduce the amount of water bottles and non-carbonated beverages in our landfills by supporting the Bottle Expansion Bill #54 which needs MI State Senate approval. This campaign will be writing letters on a regular basis to key Legislatures and is planning a lobby day in Lansing for later this summer. VOLUNTEER NOW! • ENERGY
Michigan has been losing jobs at an alarming pace, and outdated policies have discouraged individuals and businesses from earning money through energy they create with their own renewable sources like solar and wind. The OCDP Energy Campaign advocates the passage of the Renewable Energy Sources Act as a way to create new jobs and encourage innovative business development. The Act would require power companies to buy back power from those who create it on their properties. The program is structured similar to one in Germany that resulted in hundreds of thousands of new jobs as Germany transitioned away from traditional energy sources to renewable ones.

The Renewable Energy Sources Act establishes policy incentives that allow anyone to profit from installing renewable energy sources on their property, and it will generate much-needed new jobs and businesses in Michigan. It also encourages a grassroots shift from antiquated energy sources to the harnessing of cleaner, more efficient natural power. If you are interested in learning more about this defining issue, and want to help convince our legislators that Michigan's economy and environment benefit when they support passage of the Renewable Energy Sources Act, VOLUNTEER NOW!

  • GOOD GOVERNMENT
Our Good Government Task Force is going to be on the forefront of numerous initiatives to get Oakland County back on the right track. The first campaign goal is to support our County Commissioners by increasing citizen participation by mobilizing as many people as possible to attend the “trial” evening county commissioner meetings held on the following dates: July 15, Aug 12, Sept 2, Oct 14, and Dec 9. VOLUNTEER NOW! Contact Good Government Campaign Leader Ryan Gesund at 248- 543-9031 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

  • TRANSPORTATION
Our Transportation Campaign is working hard at a grass roots level to support the creation of a strong Regional Transit Authority. Since its creation, the campaign has had a part in delaying votes from SMART to raise bus fares, made appearances and spoken out at various cities Planning Commission meetings, and even made our presence known in Lansing to our State Legislators. The campaign is now gearing up for Lobby Days, where you are able to be in front of the Legislators in your district and push for Budgets that invest in Regional Mass Transit and do not harm Transportation. We need your help! We need strong voices and willing volunteers. VOLUNTEER NOW!
